For over 20 years, I have given people guidance on visiting Disney World. For those guests driving, I always remind them to remember where they parked. They can take a picture of the parking area, write it down, or send yourself a text message. So, this is my story of how even an expert can make a mistake. Oh no – it was not my mistake!
My typical day at Magic Kingdom. I park in the parking lot, grab the cameras and my phone and instantly walk to the tram tweeting away. At the end of the row, I usually stop to take a picture of the parking area. For some reason this day, I did not do that and got right on the tram. When I don’t take a picture, I will normally look up and text myself the details. On this particular day, right before we headed off I heard the tram driver say…”Remember to write down your parking area. You are in Goofy 25.” He then said it again. Okay – Goofy 25 and I type it into my phone to remember for later.
I enjoy my time at Magic Kingdom and hop on the tram at the Ticket & Transportation Center to go back to the parking lot. Again, I am just tweeting away as the tram goes along. I then hear the tram driver say, “Sit back and relax as we head to the Ticket & Transportation Center”. What? Hello…did you skip Goofy? When I get back to the Ticket & Transportation Center, I walk all of the way down to the Cast Member at the end of the tram to ask him about Goofy. He looks at me and says, “We are only parking in the dwarfs today”. I show him my phone, so he does not think I am crazy. But, with his look I know he thought I was a little looney. Instead of hopping back on the tram for another round of the parking lot ride that never ends, I walk over to the Security van to double check what parking lot I am suppose to be in for the time I arrived.
The Security guys were very helpful, but you could tell they were laughing at the situation. I am sure they were thinking “another crazy tourist.” I knew I was right – I knew the Cast Member on the tram said Goofy. Turns out I was parked in Grumpy. As I walked back to the tram for round two of the parking lot tour, a Cast Member pulled me aside. I think he felt bad for me. He chuckled and said that I was right. He was the driver when the other Cast Member gave the wrong location. Turns out today was a training day for Cast Members and they were still learning. So, even experts make mistakes – as in Disney Cast Members. Oh – I never make mistakes! 🙂
